9. Position the flap onto the bottom
foam wing saddle (inner and outer
panels taped together) with the flap’s TE
even with the TE of the saddle. To keep
the flap from sliding once weights are
added, place toothpicks in front of the
bottom skin’s LE. Check your flap once
more for proper skin alignment, then
add the top wing saddle over the flap
and add weights. Allow 24 hours to
cure.
10. Once the adhesive is cured, trim the
top flap skin’s LE so that it extends
about 1/8” forward of the 1/8” balsa LE.
Inboard of the control horn, apply CA
near the joint where the foam begins to
curve and apply CA near the skin’s LE.
You can press the skin to the flap by
rolling it against the table while the CA
cures. Do this again for the area
outboard of the horn.
11. Trim the bottom flap skin back so
that it extends about 1/8
”
forward of the
corrugations. Apply CA to the LE of the
bottom flap skin and attach it to the
balsa LE working over the radius
slightly. Remove the film from the top
and bottom flap skins.
12. Rough trim the flap LE skin and
position it over the flap’s LE so that
there is ample material overhanging at
the tip and root. Mark where the LE skin
needs to be cut to fit over the control
horn, then cut it out.
13. Fit the LE skin over the horn and
draw trim lines. The top line is even
with the TE of the balsa LE. The bottom
trim line is just in front of the
corrugations. Trim the flap LE along
these cut lines. Rough up with
sandpaper the areas of the flap skins
and the LE skin where they will meet.
14. Tape the LE skin in position at the
root and tip. Apply CA under the LE
skin along the top edge, use a straight
