Sometimes an area of the skin may be
under slight tension and result in a small
surface wave as shown below.
To address this, try to remove the
tension by taping down the skin on
either side of the wave or add more
adhesive, and then weight the area
down with a moderate amount of weight.
This should reduce the height of the
surface wave to a point where it is
hardly perceivable. Remember, full-size
airplanes don’t have perfect surfaces
either – especially 35 year old trainers
like the T-34C.
22. Use an applicator tip to apply CA
under the skin onto the balsa door frame
and hold down the skin until cured. Also
apply CA to the bottom rear of the side
skin were it overlaps the bottom skin.
23. Once cured, you can trim the skin
at the wing saddle but first draw a line
¼” aft of the saddle’s LE – you want the
skin to overhang so that when you
install the ¼” ply plate it will have a skin
over its edge. Use scissors to trim the
saddle area.
24. Trace the door skin’s outline onto a
¼” thick balsa sheet – this will be the
door’s support. Then draw a line inside
the outline by about 1/16”-1/8” except at
the hinge side (as shown). Cut out this
door support along the inside line.
