FL_Port
Fabric loop port. In a Fibre Channel, the
is capable of Fibre Channel
arbitrated loop operations and is
connected to one or more
s by a
Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop. An
FL_Port becomes a shared entry point for
public NL_Port devices to a Fibre Channel
fabric. FL_Ports are intermediate ports in
virtual point-to-point links between end
ports that do not reside on the same loop,
for example NL_Port to FL_Port to F_Port
to N_Port through a single Fibre Channel
fabric switch.
Flash
Non-volatile memory where the boot code
is saved. At times, Flash and
are used interchangeably.
Flash BIOS
A QLA2
xxx
's flash programmable
read-only memory (PROM) contains the
code that allows booting from the adapter
at startup.
frame
Data unit consisting of a start-of-frame
(SOF) delimiter, header, data payload,
CRC, and an end-of-frame (EOF) delim-
iter.
FRU
Field replaceable unit. Component that
can be replaced in the field upon failure.
G_Port
Generic port. A port that can operate as
either an E_Port or an F_Port. A G_Port
can determine operating mode at switch
port initialization, F_Port when an N_Port
attachment is determined, E_Port when an
E_Port attachment is determined. See
,
.
GBIC
Gigabit interface converter. Removable
transceiver module that permits Fibre
Channel and Ethernet physical layer trans-
port.
Gbps
Gigabits per second. A measure of data
transfer rates.
gigabit interface converter
HA
High availability. HA refers to a system or
device that operates continuously for a
long length of time.
Host Bus Adapter
.
heartbeat LED
A chassis LED that indicates the router
status.
high availability
.
hot replaceable
Also known as
hot swappable
, this means
you can add new devices or remove
existing ones when the system is running.
IANA
Internet Assigned Numbers Authority
(IANA) is responsible for the global coordi-
nation of the DNS Root, IP addressing,
and other Internet protocol resources.
initiator
System component, such as a network
interface card, that originates an I/O
operation.
