Issued by the International Standards Organization, its formal title is ISO 9660: I n f o r m a t i o n
P r o c e s s i n g - Volume and File Structure of CD-ROM for Information Exchange (1988). This multi-
platform logical structure has been the key standard for the growth and worldwide acceptance
of CD-ROM as a publishing and information distribution media and, since then, as the basic
format structure for other implementations of CD-ROM in the computer arena.
