SECTION 6 - OPERATION
Unit safeties (faults), as shown in
• Faults that cause the running compressor to be
shut down, if a safety threshold is exceeded for
three seconds.
•
Recorded in the history buffer along with all unit
data and system operating conditions.
• Auto reset faults where the unit will be allowed to
restart automatically after the fault condition is no
longer present.
The only exception is any VSD related unit fault. If any
combination of three VSD unit faults occur within 90
minutes, the unit will be locked out on the last fault. A
VSD lockout condition requires a manual reset, using
the SYSTEM SWITCHES key on the keypad. They
must be cycled off and on to clear a VSD unit lockout
fault. If a unit safety is in effect, the message will be
displayed when the STATUS key is pressed.
Shutdowns due to faults are one of two types:
• Immediate - Power to run the compressor is
stopped immediately.
• Ramped - The speed of the compressor is ramped
to zero quickly, and then power is stopped imme-
diately.
VSD Fault Data
When a VSD fault has occurred, three types of fault
data are captured by the VSD logic board. This data is
stored in the board battery-backed RAM for safekeep-
ing and is transferred to the panel via the communica-
tions link.
First Fault Code
The first fault code will be set for the fault that initiated
the system shutdown.
All Fault Bits
Any faults, which occur within the communications
transmission time frame, following the inception of the
first fault, is stored and transmitted to the panel togeth-
er with the first fault data, as ALL FAULT information.
Fault Data
A snapshot of the operating parameters of the unit is
continuously updated in the battery-backed memory
once every program loop. Upon receipt of a first fault
code, a snapshot of the operating parameters, which
are stored in memory, is transmitted to the panel as the
fault data.
If a control panel safety occurs after the VSD fault, but
before the fault is reset, the control panel fault is added
as an ALL FAULT of the VSD fault, meaning it will be
registered in the history because it occurred while the
VSD was shutting down, or while the systems were
shut down. ALL FAULTS do not store operating data
at the time of the fault.
If a VSD fault occurs during the fault rampdown or
while the systems are shut down, the VSD fault will be
registered as a new fault because any VSD fault needs
to be registered with a full account of the systems data
at the time of the fault.
