6.5 Activity sensor
6.5a Keys to successfully using your activity sensor
•
Always program your activity sensor before programming your GPS. If you
program your GPS before programming your activity sensor, the GPS unit will
lose its date and time. If you inadvertently do program your GPS first and the
activity sensor second you will have to open collar sw and set the time again. If
you do not do this the GPS may attempt to acquire the time by search for a GPS
signal every 20 minutes until it has acquired the correct time. Please refer to the
Programming your GPS, set time section.
•
Initially the activity sensor stores data into a buffer. When this buffer is full it will
automatically move the data into the nonvolatile memory. The buffer is full when
it holds 62 lines of motion data. One line of activity data results from one delta
time period. You will not be able to download the motion data onto your
computer unless the data has already been stored in the GPS unit’s nonvolatile
memory. The data will be moved into the nonvolatile memory when either one of
two things happen. Either the buffer reaches 62 lines of data or the buffer flush is
set and the unit attempts a GPS position. As you try to become familiar with the
activity sensor you may be tempted to download your test data before the buffer is
full. Use a short delta time and a high sample rate to fill the buffer quickly.
•
In order to understand how different movements trigger different output data
please use the graphical interface in the motion software. As you move the
Quantum 4000 Enhanced unit in your hands you will see the output both
numerically and graphically. Adjust the user programmable settings to vary the
way in which the activity sensor detects movements.
•
You cannot download activity data remotely.
•
Activity data will not be stored when the USB is plugged in, the magnets are in
place or no GPS schedule is set.
•
The activity sensor can store roughly 1,669,680 lines of data.
