Creating a Protection Plan
A protection plan is an automated script that stores capacity-optimized
archive versions of your specified files on GoVault cartridges. When
creating a protection plan, you specify the:
• Files that you want to protect
To help you get started, the GoVault data protection software
provides three categories for file specification:
•
Personal Data and Settings
automatically specifies
productivity
files in the
Documents and Settings
folder on the local hard disk
drive—usually drive C—including your:
• Microsoft
Outlook
e-mail settings and .pst files
• Desktop settings
• Application data settings
• Internet favorites
•
My Documents
and
My Pictures
folders
You could use the archives created by this option to restore your
e-mail files and re-create the “look and feel” of your desktop after
a serious system failure.
•
Custom
inhibits the preselection of any files and requires you to
specify the exact files, folders and drives.
•
Everything
automatically specifies all files and folders on all local
disk drives.
• Name and brief description of the protection plan
• GoVault cartridge that you want the protection plan to use
By default, the GoVault data protection software automatically
assigns each protection plan to all new cartridges. You can choose
instead to assign a specific cartridge to each protection plan.
• Run schedule for the protection plan
You can schedule your plan to run either automatically—on a daily,
weekly, or monthly basis—or manually, whenever you want.
