7. Carbon Monoxide Monitor
Quicksilver® boats are equipped with carbon monoxide (CO) monitors in the cabin and enclosed
berths or staterooms. Carbon Monoxide is an odorless, colorless, tasteless, and extremely toxic gas
produced by engines, heaters, stoves or generators. When inhaled it combines with hemoglobin in
the blood, preventing absorption of oxygen and is unlikely to be noticed until the person is overcome.
Prolonged exposure to low concentration or very short exposure to high concentrations can result in
asphyxiation and death.
Symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning include dizziness, headaches, ringing in the ears, nausea,
or unconsciousness. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. These symptoms are often
confused with seasickness or intoxication, so those affected may not receive the medical attention
they need. The poisoning victim’s skin often turns cherry red. If CO poisoning is suspected, have the
victim breath fresh air deeply. If breathing stops, resuscitate. A victim often revives, then relapses
because organs are damaged by lack of oxygen.
Your boat is also equipped with a 5m

fixed automatic fire extinguisher located on the port side of the
bilge to protect the engine space. In the event of a fire on board your vessel underway, the system will
discharge its entire contents to extinguish the fire. In addition, the engine will shut down immediately
by the discharge so that the fire cannot be fueled by the continued operation of the engine.
In the event of your extinguisher discharging,
1. Shut down all electrical systems, engines and extinguish all smoking materials.
2. Allow the agent to “soak” the compartment for at least 15 minutes.
3. DO NOT open the machinery access compartment hatch.
4. DO NOT breathe the fumes or vapors caused by fire as they are hazardous and toxic.
5. When opening the hatch, have a portable fire extinguisher at hand and ready for use.
6. High concentrations of the agent may cause DEATH without warning. The vapor reduces
available oxygen for breathing.
7. If possible; allow the compartments vapor to dissipate before opening the hatch.
If necessary after the system has discharged, there is an override switch located at the helm that will
allow you to restart the engine, if required.
