Exhaust System
Your boat is equipped with a thru hull exhaust system with an inline muffler located on the starboard
side of the boat. Water from the cooling system enters the exhaust system through the engine
exhaust manifold, where water and exhaust are mixed. Water and exhaust is then pumped through
the muffler and then overboard through the exhaust outlet. Make sure water is flowing from the
exhaust outlet while the engine is operating.
Prior to every boat use, examine the exhaust system fittings to ensure tightness.
14. Engine Controls
Your boat comes with a mechanical gear shift/throttle control unit, located to the starboard of the
steering wheel, which activates both the shifting and throttle for the engine.
To start the engine, the control unit must be in the NEUTRAL position. When in neutral, the engine is
running, but the propeller is not spinning. There is a throttle only button that when pressed, will
allow you to operate the throttle without the propeller spinning. On the mechanical shift controller,
the button is located at the center of the throttle control, and when moved back to the center
position, the button will automatically re-engage the shifting mechanism.
Moving the control lever forward from neutral engages the forward gear and thrust. Moving the
control lever backwards from neutral engages the reverse gear and thrust. The throttle lever controls
the RPM of the engine and the speed of the boat.

Trolling Mode
Installed on the transmission, there is a trolling valve that is controlled by a Vernier control head and
cable located on the dash. The trolling valve allows for engine operation below the normal idle in
gear speed. To operate:
1. Using the mechanical gear shift / throttle control unit, shift the engine to NEUTRAL.
2. Allow the engine rpm to slow down to low idle.
3. Using the Vernier control, push the red button and pull the control handle out to increase the
engine speed. To slow the engine down, push the cable in toward the dash. By twisting the
control handle, small adjustments in the engine RPM can be achieved.

15. Emergency Engine Shutdown Switch
Your boat is equipped with an ignition shutdown safety switch built into the engine control. For a
boat with an exterior helm, the emergency engine shutdown switch is located at the exterior engine
control only, not the main interior helm. For a boat with only the main interior helm, the emergency
engine shutdown switch is located on the interior engine control.
The ignition shutdown switch incorporates a shut-off switch and a lanyard. Before operating the boat,
one end of the lanyard must be connected to the shut-off switch while the other end is connected to
the operator. If an emergency arises where the engine must be shut down, pull the lanyard cord to
release it from the shut-off switch, which in turn shuts down the engine. This switch is designed to
shut the engine off when the operator of the boat leaves the control station, either accidently by
falling into the boat, or by being ejected overboard.
