WING ATTACH / UPPER & LOWER WIRES / KINGPOST
REFER TO DETAIL ON FOLLOWING PAGE.
Understand this entire procedure before starting. This begins the final assembly of
the kit. Additional help is almost required but can be done solo. Put weight on top of
the nose wheel to hold the nose wheel on the ground.
More weight the better, weight in the seat is good too. Block / chock the wheels so
that the trike CANNOT roll.
Attach the Wings to the Channels on the Root Tube then set the outboard
compression struts on a 6’ step ladder OR use the Wing Support constructed from
wood on previous pages. I prefer the ladders but whatever you use be sure it’s
secure. Carefully position the supports so the wing is steady and secure. Some
builders have used rigging hanging from the ceiling. Whatever works.
Position the King Post (KP) Assembly between the wings. The Aft Tube should be
vertical going down to the seat area and the FWD Tube should be horizontal going
forward and resting on top of the fuel tank. Attach the Upper Wires (L & R) to the
fitting on top of the KP and install the Clevis and Safety. Double check that all wires
are routed without interference and none are twisted. The lower wires should be
dangling below the wings.
Raise the KP and T-Pin (10472) the Lower Fitting into the most AFT hole in the AFT
KP Channel (45681). Again be sure the wires are not snagged or twisted at the Tang
end (bolted to the wing). You may need to adjust the height of the wings to allow
this step. Only attach the AFT KP at this time. Leave the FWD KP unattached.
Lower the wings (evenly) so that they are hanging on the Upper cables.
Attach the Lower Wires to the Tri Bar Assembly. Now, un-pin and PUSH on the lower
part of the AFT KP until the wires are snug. This step is what sets the tension of the
Lower Wires. Not unusual for some wires to be tighter than others at this time.
Check again that all wires are NOT snagged or TWISTED on the Tangs.
You’ll see that by Pushing OR Pulling on the FWD KP that the tension on the wires
changes. The objective here is to get the wire tension as close as possible to each
other. Secure the Bottoms of the KP’s. You will make several adjustments as the
wires and airframe will settle into place. Just barely SNUG is good.
Now Attach the Landing Gear Side Wires to the Tang on the Axle.
Attach the Aileron Wires to the Bell crank.
Secure the Wing Strap Buckles. Ideally adjust the strap length then connect the
buckle. Do not pull on the loose end to tighten the strap. Too many times builders
have broken the plastic buckle by pulling on the loose end.
Gap Cover. This is usually installed at a later time. It should be obvious how its
installed the only sensitive part is heat cutting the hole for the fuel tank Cap.
