3.3.2 Connecting Console Cable
Follow these steps to connect a terminal device, a PC for example, to the switch:
Step 1: Plug the DB-9 female connector of the Console cable to the serial port of the PC
where the switch is to be configured.
Step 2: Connect the RJ-45 connector of the Console cable to the Console port of the
switch.
Caution:
Identify the port before plugging the connector into it.
Note:
Serial ports on PCs do not support hot swap, meaning you cannot insert or remove a
serial interface cable from a PC that is connected to a switch with power. In
connecting/disconnecting a PC and a switch, always plug/unplug the DB9 connector of
Console cable to/from the PC before plugging/unplugging the RJ45 connector to/from
the switch.
3.4 Post-installation Checklist

Check that whether the power to be used is consistent with that labeled on the
switch.
z
Whether the grounding wire is connected.
z
Check whether the Console cable and power cord are correctly connected.
z
Check if all the interface cables run indoors. If there is any cable outdoors, check if
you have connected the AC lightning protection bar and network port lightning
protection device.
