TC-1000 Radar Speed Sign Installation Manual MN0018 v21.01

Pole and Mounting Options

Selecting a Pole Type

The TC-1000 radar speed signs can be mounted on the following size and style poles. The pole length should be a
minimum of 11 feet above the surface of the ground.  When using a solar sign, the ideal length is 12 feet to 14 feet
above the ground.

•

Round pole, 2.375", 3", 3.5", 4", or 4.5" outside diameter

•

U channel or hat channel poles: recommend 2 poles per sign for TC-1000 models

•

Any 2.5"  or larger square metal pole or any 4" or larger square wooden pole is recommended

•

Round poles with a 5" diameter or larger can use Radarsign’s oversize pole mounting Astro bracket for poles
up to 17" in diameter.  There is a separate charge for this bracket.

Sample Pole Mounting Options

Due to the extremes of weather and terrain conditions that might exist, Radarsign does not recommend any specific
pole or hardware* for installation of our signs.  It is the responsibility of the user to install the necessary pole size to
provide adequate support for the sign.  Please note that the solar models will need the larger, stronger poles as
there is nearly 4 square feet of surface on the sign itself, plus an additional 4 square feet of surface for the solar
panel.

A 24" x 30" regulatory speed limit sign adds another 5 square feet of surface.  A breakaway base should anchor
the pole you select. There are several manufacturers of this type of system, and most city, county, and state DOT
agencies require this type of pole for ANY sign mounted on a street right-of-way.

* The hardware sizes shown are what Radarsign has available.
