Direction Lock
M.T.H. engines equipped with Loco-Sound have speedcontrol capabilities that allow the
engine to maintainaconstantspeedupanddowngradesandaroundcurves, much like an
automobile cruisecontrol. You can add or drop cars on the run, and the engine will
maintainthespeedyouset.
Whiletheengineisprogrammedtostartwiththespeedcontrolfeatureactivated,youcan
opt to turn it off. This means theengine's speed will fall as it labors up a hill andincrease
asittravelsdownward. Itisalso affectedbytheadditionorreleasingofcarswhileonthe
run. To maintainaconstantspeedwhenspeedcontrol isturnedoff,youneedtoadjust
trackvoltageyourself.
puttheengineinneutral,thenquicklytapthe
transformer'sWhistle button one time then quickly taptheBellbuttontwotimes,allowing
approximately ½ secondtolapsebetweeneachquickbuttonpress. Repeatthe 1 whistle, 2
bells code toreturnittotheothercondition.
Each
time you shut down the enginecompletely, it will automatically turnspeedcontrolon.
You can lock your engineintoadirection(forward, neutral, orreverse) sothatitwillnot
change directions. To do this, put the engineintothedirectionyouwantorintoneutral, to
lock it into neutral,runitataveryslowcrawl(asslowlyasitwillmovewithouthalting),
and quickly but firmly taptheWhistlebuttononcefollowedbythreequicktapsofthe
Bell button,allowing approximately ½ second to lapse between each quick button press.
The engine will not change direction (including going into neutral) until you repeatthe 1
whistle, 3 bells code to return the engine to its normal condition,even if theengineiskept
without power for extendedperiods of time.

You will want to do this during the initial
neutral uponstart-upifyouevercouplethisenginetoanotherenginethatisnot
equipped with speedcontrol toavoiddamaging the motors ineitherengine.
