Performed by the PC rather than by hand.
baud rate
The speed at which the modem sends and receives
data. Divide by ten to get the approximate count of
the characters (bytes) transmitted or received per
second. 300 and 1200 baud modems can be used with
Maxicom
2
.
byte
A unit of information. Each byte usually represents a
character, letter, or a symbol.
CCU (cluster control unit)
This is the middle manager of the MAXICOM System.
The CCU interfaces between the central computer
and field devices. An actual computer itself, the CCU
has all the monitoring and control capabilities of the
pc with the scope of only one site. A CCU can
communicate with up to 28 devices in the field.
central computer
The IBM-compatible personal computer you use to
control and monitor the Maxicom
2
irrigation system.
channel
Each of the field devices connected to the CCU is
assigned a number, or channel.
cluster control unit
See CCU.
CIMIS (California Irrigation Management
Information System)
An electronic bulletin board service that collects
weather station data form around the state of
California for use by the irrigation industry.
COM port
A hardware port used by the central computer to
transmit and receive data.
computer data path
The phone or radio/direct communication path by
which the information from the central computer is
transferred to the CCU.
crop coefficient
The evapotranspiration (ET) adjustment factor for the
type of plant being watered. Since some plants
require more water than others, the system provides
for this adjustment factor.
Cycle + Soak
The process of applying water at the same rate as the
soil is capable of accepting it. Total station runtime is
split up into smaller cycle (station on) and soak
(station off) segments that add up to the total
runtime.
decoder
A system device that can monitor or control different
parts of the irrigation, lighting, or security.

The start-up settings for Maxicom
