Use the SOS button to request help
The person carrying the locator can
press and hold the SOS button for
3 seconds
to send an SOS alert to the App.
The SOS button will vibrate and ‘beep’ so that the person
pressing it can tell that it has been pressed successfully.
The alert will be sent within 1 minute to everyone who
has logged into the App as a unique sound (different
from other alerts on your phone) and as an on-screen
notification.
Test the SOS button before you need to use it, so that
you are confident in how it works.
NOTE:
Make sure that you have sound turned on and notifications
enabled on your smartphone (within the smartphone’s own settings) so
that you can hear and see the SOS alerts even when the Safer Walking
App is not open.
If you receive an SOS notification on your
smartphone, you can:
1. See the person’s location on a map and use
the + and – buttons on the map to zoom in
and out of the map
2. Make a call to the locator to speak to the
person by pressing the ‘Call Now’
button at the
bottom of the notification. This call will be
answered automatically and you can start a
two-way conversation with the person holding
the locator.
3. After you call the locator, you can leave a
short note (up to 35 characters, e.g.
“Spoke to
Mum, she is fine”)
for the other App users
using the account, letting them know what has
happened. The other App users will see a
green tick next to the SOS alert on their own
phone, to tell them that the SOS alert has
been answered, and can look at the note that
you have left. (See
Events
on page 15).
