DHG0000004 RB Universal SR1000™ Installation Manual
8.2 Procedure for Alternative Power
Connection
1. Special care needs to be taken when
connecting the system directly to the
vehicle’s battery. It is recommended that
an external, single pole double throw
(SPDT) relay be installed. This will ensure
that the power you are providing for the
system will not interfere with normal
vehicle functions as it will be an isolated
source.
. A minimum of 1AWG wire should
be used when running the power in
this manner. The following illustration
provides information to complete this
modification (Figure 8-1).
Pin 5 - Ground
Pin - 1V switched accessory
Pin - 1V constant (preferably battery, or
line coming from battery, but before
fuse box)
Pin 0 - Connect to positive (red) wire of IDU

. Verify with a DMM that the 1V accessory
wire reads at least 11V in the ‘accessory’
position; 0.00V when starting the vehicle;
and 1.V to 1.V while the engine is
running. This will confirm that you have
located the switched accessory 1V wire.
. Make sure that the vehicle is turned
off. Remove the negative cable from the
battery. Verify total disconnection by
attaching the DMM to both battery posts to
get a reading of 0.00V.
5. Locate the in-line fuse holder (included
in the kit). Lift the protective cap off and
remove the 15 amp fuse. Cut the fuse
holder wire loop in half so that you end up
with two equal length ends. Attach one
end of the fuse holder as close as possible
(within 5cm) to the switched accessory
1V wire that you just found, preferably
by soldering and taping. Attach the other
end of the fuse holder to the positive
(red) side of the IDU power cable; again,
preferably by soldering and taping. Your
IDU power cable should now have two
in-line fuses, one at the power source (1V
switched accessory wire, within 5cm)
and the other at the IDU itself. Once you
have completed the installation of the fuse
holder to both the 1V accessory switched
wire and the IDU power cable, you may
re-insert the 15 amp fuse into the fuse
holder.
. Verify that the IDU power switch is in the
‘OFF’ position and insert the power plug
into the IDU.
. Reconnect the vehicle’s battery. Turn the
vehicle to it’s ‘accessory’ position and turn
on the IDU. The power switch will glow
red and you will hear the antenna (ODU)
moving as it attempts to acquire a signal.
