E. If the picture in the viewfinder is
blurry, adjust the eyepiece focus
control.
3 Start Recording
A. Place the ON/POWERSAVE lever
in the ON position. The camcorder
will not record if this lever is in the
POWERSAVE position.
B. Press the camcorder’s thumb
trigger to start and stop recording.
You do not have to hold the thumb
trigger to record.
Note: Use the thumb trigger for brief
recording pauses. If you plan to pause
recording for a longer period, place the
ON/POWERSAVE lever in the
POWERSAVE position. This will
conserve the battery’s power.
If you do not record within five
minutes, the camcorder will
automatically shut off to prevent
excessive tape wear.
C. The tally light on the front of the
camcorder lights when the
camcorder is recording.
4 Using the camcorder’s special
recording features
A. Zoom in and out.
1. Press the power zoom button
“T” to zoom in on a subject, or
press “W” to zoom away from a
subject.
2. Pro870 only: Repeatedly press
the ZOOM MODE button to use
the special zooming features or
16 x 9 mode. Details are on
page 47.
B. Fade in and out of scenes.
1. To fade into the scene you want
to record, press and hold the
FADE button. Then press the
thumb trigger to start recording.
Release the FADE button after a
few seconds.
2. To fade out while recording,
press and hold the FADE button.
Then press the thumb trigger to
stop recording. After the
recording stops, release the
FADE button.
5 Reviewing the tape while recording
A. Quick Review: Press the REVIEW
button from the record-pause mode
to quickly review the last few
seconds of recorded material.
B. Edit Search: Use the F.FWD (fast
forward), REW (rewind), and PLAY
buttons on the camcorder as
described on page 31 to visually
search what you have recorded.
When you have finished recording
1. Press the thumb trigger to stop the
camcorder from recording.
2. If you want to rewind the tape to the
beginning, slide the POWER switch to
the VCR position. Then press the
REW (rewind) button on the
camcorder to rewind the tape.
3. Slide and release the EJECT button to
open the cassette door. Remove the
cassette and gently close the door with
your hand.
4. Place the POWER switch in the OFF
position to turn off the camcorder.
