• Do not use a defect product. Do the safety checks
and maintenance given in this operator's manual. All
other maintenance must be done by approved
servicing personnel.
• Install all covers, guards, handles and other parts
before use. To prevent electrical shock, make sure
that the spark plug cap and ignition cable are not
damaged.
• Do not operate the product when you are tired, ill or
under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. These
conditions can decrease your vision, judgment or
coordination.
• Do not use the product in bad weather, such as fog,
rain, strong winds and intense cold. To do work in
bad weather can cause tiredness and dangerous
conditions.
• Do not let children operate or stay near the product.
The product has a spring-loaded mechanism on the
start/stop switch and can be started by a small child.
This can cause serious injury or death. Always
remove the spark plug cap when the product is not
used
• Keep a safety distance at a minimum of 15 m to
persons or animals. If persons of animals come
nearer than 15 m, stop the product. Point the product
away from persons, animals, open windows and
other objects.
• Make sure that you can move and keep a stable
position. Do not overreach. Do a check of the work
area for possible obstacles such as rocks. Be careful
if you operate the product in a slope.
• Always hold the product with 2 hands. Hold the
product on the right side of your body and keep the
cutting attachment below waist level.
• Stop the engine before you move to another work
area. Use the transportation guard.
• Do not put the product on the ground with the engine
on.
• Stop the engine and cutting equipment before you
remove material from the blade shaft. Let the bevel
gear become cool. Risk of serious injury.
• Look out for thrown objects. Do not bend over the
cutting attachment guard. Stones, rubbish, etc. can
be thrown up into the eyes and cause blindness or
serious injury.
• Always stop the engine before you clean the
product.
• Always set the product to idle speed after each
operation. Long periods at full throttle without load
can cause serious engine damage.
• Listen for warning signals or shouts when you use
hearing protection. Always remove your hearing
protection when the engine has stopped.
• Too much vibration can cause damage to the
circulation or the nervous system. Speak to your
physician if you receive symptoms such as
numbness, loss of feeling, tingling, pricking, pain,
loss of strength or changes in skin color in your
fingers, hands or wrists.
• Keep all body parts away from the cutting
attachment and hot surfaces.
Personal protective equipment
WARNING: Read the warning instructions
that follow before you use the product.
• Use approved personal protective equipment when
you use the product. Personal protective equipment
cannot fully prevent injury but it can decrease the
degree of injury. Speak to your dealer for more
information.
• Use a protective helmet.
• Use approved hearing protection. Long-term
exposure to noise can result in permanent damage
to the hearing.
• Use approved eye protection. If you use a visor, you
must also use approved protective goggles.
Approved protective goggles must agree with the
ANSI Z87.1 standard in the USA or EN 166 in EU
countries.
• Use protective gloves during operation and
maintenance.
• Use protective boots or shoes with non-slip soles.
• Use clothing made of a strong fabric. Your clothing
must be close-fitting but not limit your movements.
Use long pants and put your hair behind your
shoulders. Do not use jewelry and open shoes.
• Keep first aid equipment near.
Cutting attachment
WARNING: The cutting attachment must not
rotate when you do work on it. Make sure
that the engine has stopped. Remove the
spark plug cap before you do work on the
cutting attachment.
WARNING: Make sure that the cutting
attachment is not damaged. A damaged
cutting attachment can cause accidents.
Replace a damaged cutting attachment.
WARNING: Use the correct cutting
attachment. Only use the cutting attachment
with the guards we recommend, refer to
Accessories on page 18
.
Cutting equipment
• The trimmer head is used to cut grass.
• The blade is used to cut coarse grass.
• An incorrectly sharpened or damaged blade
increases the risk of accidents. Keep the teeth of the
blade correctly sharpened. Obey the instructions in
To sharpen the grass knife and grass blade on page
15
and use the recommended file gauge.
