7. Charging the Batteries
a) Charging the Drive Battery for the Vehicle
• The vehicle requires a 6-cell LiPo battery (rated voltage 22.2 V) for operation. Its capacity should be about
5000 mAh and the discharge rate at least 30C.
• No rechargeable drive battery is included in the delivery. It must be ordered separately. This enables you to choose
whether you want to use a low-cost beginner’s battery or a high-quality professional battery with a high capacity.
• The drive battery is delivered uncharged and must be charged.
• Before the rechargeable drive battery delivers its maximum power, several complete discharge and charge cycles
are necessary.
• High-quality drive batteries not only have a higher capacity, which allows you to drive your model vehicle much
longer, but also deliver a higher output voltage under load. This gives the motor more power and results in better
acceleration and higher speed.
• Only use a suitable charger to charge LiPo batteries. Conventional NiCd- or NiMH-battery chargers must not be
used.
• Observe the operating instructions for the charger used when charging the battery.
• Rechargeable batteries heat up when charged or discharged (driving the vehicle). Wait until the rechargeable bat-
teries have reached room temperature before charging them. The same applies after the charging procedure. Do
not use the rechargeable battery in the vehicle until it has cooled down completely after the charging process.
• Remove the battery from the vehicle for charging.
b) Charging the Receiver Battery
• A separate receiver power supply is required to operate the vehicle because the power demand of the two steering
servos is too high to use the speed controller BEC.
• We recommend using a high-current-capable 5-cell NiMH hump battery pack as receiver power supply.
• Disconnect the receiver battery from the receiver before charging and remove it from the vehicle’s battery box.
• Observe the operating instructions for the charger used when charging the receiver batteries.
• Rechargeable batteries heat up when charged or discharged (driving the vehicle). Wait until the rechargeable bat-
teries have reached room temperature before charging them. The same applies after the charging procedure. Do
not use the rechargeable battery in the vehicle until it has cooled down completely after the charge process.
c) Charging Rechargeable Batteries in the Transmitter
Also observe the separately enclosed operating instructions for the transmitter.
