g) Basic information on steering quadrocopters
Before you fly your model, you should first familiarize yourself with the control possibilities open to you and thereby
be able to fly safely.
The symmetrical design of the model makes the allocation of the direction (front/back) very difficult. Therefore, there
are red LEDs under the two front propellers and yellow LEDs under the two rear propellers.
The quadrocopter is controlled via the two joysticks on the remote control transmitter. The following functions are
available:
Pitch function
With the pitch function you can control the flying height of the helicopter (see Figure 11). Steering is done with the left
joystick (see also Figure 1, no. 13).
When the motors are started by remote control, they run at idle speed. If the joystick is now pushed forwards from its
central position, the rotational speed of the propellers increase and the quadrocopter lifts off. Once the desired height
has been reached, the joystick can be returned to the centre position. The quadrocopter now hovers at a steady
altitude due to its barometric sensor.
If the joystick is moved further forward, the quadrocopter climbs. If the joystick is pulled back, the quadrocopter
descends (see arrows in Figure 11).
