10. Programming the Speed Controller
a) Flashing Signals of the Speed Controller LED
When a sufficiently charged drive battery is connected to the speed controller and the speed controller is on, the red
LED of the speed controller displays the following conditions:
•
The throttle/brake lever at the transmitter is in the neutral position and the LED remains lit
Crawler mode is active. This is the wrong operating mode for the vehicle. Switch the speed controller to regular
mode; see chapter 10. c).
•
The throttle/brake lever at the transmitter is in the neutral position and the LED flashes slowly
Normal mode is active. This is the right operating mode for the vehicle.
•
Forward/reverse driving
The more power the speed controller emits to the motor, the faster will the LED flash. The LED flashes very quickly
at full throttle.
b) Programming of the Undervoltage Recognition
Attention!
This vehicle uses a 6-cell NiMH drive battery (nominal voltage 7.2 V).
The speed controller will overheat when used with a LiPo drive battery and ultimately damage it.
For that reason, use only a NiMH drive battery with 6 cells, and never use a LiPo drive battery with 2 cells.
When using am 6-cell NiMH-drive battery, the undervoltage recognition should be deactivated. Otherwise,
it is not possible to use the full battery capacity when driving the vehicle, and the driving time will reduce.
When operating the vehicle with a NiMH battery, stop driving when the vehicle noticeably slows down.
Switch on the transmitter first, then the speed controller.
After switching on the speed controller, the motor emits sound signals; they are generated by brief activation of the
motor by the speed controller.
Sound signal " • - - -"
Undervoltage recognition off (basic setting, for NiMH drive battery, one brief and three long
sounds)
Sound signal " • • - - -"
Undervoltage recognition on (required for LiPo drive battery, two brief and three long
sounds)
If only one or two short sounds are output (without the three long sounds), the neutral position at the trans-
mitter has not been recognised (or the transmitter is off).
Release the throttle/brake so that it is in the neutral position. Put the trimming for the driving function at the
transmitter into the centre position. Then switch off the speed controller and switch if on again after a few
seconds.
