Maintenance and cleaning
The product does not require any maintenance and should never be disassembled for any reason.
Disconnect the product from the power supply before cleaning (all network connections will cease
to function).
Dust can easily be removed using a clean, soft brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Do not use aggressive cleaning agents as these can cause discolouration.
Do not press too strongly on the surface when cleaning, to prevent scratch marks.
Tips & notes
• If you have your own network or system administrator for your network (as will probably be the
case in a larger company), please let this person assume the responsibility for connection and
wiring. Do not connect the network switch yourself!
• The twisted-pair cable (also called a patch cable) between the network switch and the device
to be connected should have a max. length of 100 m. Use as a minimum so-called CAT5e cables,
which are fully wired (all 8 contacts of the RJ45 connector are connected 1:1).
• The maximum theoretical data transfer rate of 10 or 100 MBit/s is usually not achieved in practi-
ce (e.g. 100MBit = approx. 12.5MByte/s). During data transmission, not only data, but also proto-
col information etc is transmitted, data packages must be repeated or different computers may
want to transmit data at the same time. Furthermore, the data for example may need to be read
off the hard disk of one computer and written onto the hard disk of another computer.
• If the network switch is not supplied with power, all the connections will be out of operation. A
network connection is not possible.
• The Link/Act LED belonging to each RJ45 port is lit during an active network connection and fla-
shes during data transfer. The power LED is lit when the network switch is supplied with power.
Disposal
Electrical and electronic products do not belong in the household waste!

Intended use
The product is intended for cable-based networking of computers or other devices suitable for the
purpose. Depending on the version, 3, 5 or 8 twisted-pair connections (RJ45) are available.
Power is supplied via USB; suitable cable is enclosed. Alternatively, an external wall plug transfor-
mer may be used as well (not included in the delivery, can be ordered separately).
Always observe the safety instructions and all other information included in these operating in-
structions.

Getting started, connection
• Connect the switch to a USB port on your computer or to a USB hub using the USB power cable
enclosed.
The USB port must be able of supplying a current of 500 mA. Therefore, you will need,
for example, a USB port on a computer or a USB hub with a separate power supply.
The USB port on a keyboard, or a USB hub without a power adapter, does not supply
sufficient current; the switch cannot be used in these cases!
As an alternative to the enclosed USB power cable, an external wall plug transformer may
also be used (not included, can be ordered separately). This must supply an output voltage of
5 V/DC and a current of at least 500 mA.
The switch has a MiniUSB and a MicroUSB port. Therefore, you can use a wall plug transformer
with one of the two suitable connectors.
Caution!
Use either the MiniUSB or the MicroUSB port. Never use both ports at the same time.
• The network switch‘s RJ45 connections must be connected to the appropriate RJ45 ports on
the network cards (or another network switch) using suitable network cables (we recommend
cables that meet the standard CAT5e).
The network switch supplied has automatic uplink recognition for each port, which
allows for particularly simple wiring to other switches. A cross-link cable is no longer
required; you can use a conventional 1:1 connected network cable.
