Retmex Rescue Sheet - Nomex Model
This manual will help you to use the Retmex Rescue Sheet - Nomex Model in a correct and safe way.
Please refer to these instructions before using the product.
The Retmex is a 2-in-1 rescue solution. It has two functions:
Saving a victim in the most critical circumstances (house fires, riots, terrorist attacks, etc.)
Fire extinguishing (e.g. when a person's clothing is on fire)
This makes the Retmex one of a kind. To overcome the most critical situations, the rescue cloth is made of first-class materials:
Nomex®, Kevlar®, fire retardant retro-reflective tape and an advanced fire-retardant tape construction.
Advice for training
Practice using the Retmex in order to guarantee its correct and safe use in the event of an emergency.

After use, always check the product for damage. Note that if the casualty has already been dragged for a significant distance the structure of the fabric may have been
damaged. The Retmex can be cleaned in the washing machine.Follow the washing instructions.

Washing instruction

Horizontal evacuation
It is recommended that you evacuate the victim with 2 persons.
It is possible to do this on your own, but with 2 persons the physical load will be reduced.
1. Use the strap or handles at the head or foot end to move the person. If you use the pulling strap at the head end, make
sure to lift the victim's head and neck for support.
2. Use your weight to move the victim on the Retmex. Take a stand like a 'water skier'. Keep your arms straight.
Staircase evacuation
It is recommended to do the vertical evacuation with at least 2 persons.
1. Make sure there is one person at the foot end and one person at the head end.
2. The person's feet on the rescue sheet should be in the sliding direction.
3. The person at the foot end will step down a few steps and pull the rescue sheet towards him. Use the handles for doing so.
4. If the person's buttocks are over the edge of the first step, there will be a tipping point. The person at
the head end then uses the long strap at the head end to lift the rescue sheet. This creates a wave motion. Make sure to lift
up the strap at the head end to provide support to the victim’s head and neck.
Attention! The fabric is thin, which means that the person on the Retmex might hit the stairs with his buttocks. This can be
sensitive. Do not overestimate your skills, strengths and abilities. Staircase evacuation can be difficult. You must be able to
control the victim's descent speed while sliding down the staircases.
Transfer a victim to the stretcher
Use the side handles on the longitudinal sides to transfer a person to a stretcher. With 3-6 people you can easily and
quickly find balance which makes the transfer to the stretcher run smoothly. Communicate with your colleagues before
you start the transfer.
