3.3.3 View of the thermal plate with sensor
The MM 500 control has two internal temperature sensors. The temperatures shown in the
display are the temperatures of the sensors in the thermal plates. The temperature values serve
as a reference value for the grinding. The position of the sensors in the thermal plates is shown
below.

KP
Thermal plate
The thermal plate is cooled by the cooling system and then
cools the grinding jar via the grinding jar bottom.
S
Sensor
The sensor measures the temperature of the thermal plate.
The current temperatures are shown in the display. If a
cryoPad is connected, the average of both temperatures is
displayed.
MB Grinding jar
For holding the sample material to be ground and the
grinding balls.
Insert the grinding jar into the grinding jar support and make sure that the bottom of the grinding
jar rests on the thermal plate in order to ensure optimum cooling.
The thermal plate cools the grinding jar via the grinding jar bottom. In order to ensure that the
grinding jar and its contents are chilled before the grinding, you can select a cooling time in the
software (see Chapter 7). (This setting option is only available when used with the cryoPad.)
PLEASE NOTE:
In principle, the temperatures of the grinding jar and the sample material inside
the grinding jar may deviate from the temperature of the thermal plate. Among other things, the
temperatures depend on the grinding jar volume, the set frequency, the cooling time, the
number of balls and the ball size.
