GENERAL
This section contains instructions for performing repairs to the Coastal Compact Liferafts.
Repairs normally consist of patching the damage with fabric patches. The patching fabric must be the
same type of material as the item under repair. All rafts are required to be retested after all
major repairs are made.
See Chapter 4 – Testing for details.
See Chapter 10 Tools, Equipment, and Materials for detailed descriptions of any tools used in the
following disassembly procedures.
1.
NON-REPAIRABLE RAFTS
Liferafts falling under any of the following set of conditions are not recommended for repair.
Replace rafts as deemed necessary.
A.
Rafts with fabric deterioration caused by contact with oil, grease, or any other
contaminating substance.
B.
Rafts failing to pass leakage test due to large multiple areas of porosity of the floatation
fabric that would not be feasible to repair with patches.
C.
Rafts with any tear, rip, to abrasion damage exceeding 6in. (15cm) in length.
D.
Rafts older than 9 years from the date of manufacture that require major repairs or repairs
other than the minor repairs described in the next section.
E.
Rafts which, upon completion of the testing and fault isolation and check procedures, would
not justify repair per the judgment of a competent inspector.
2.
REPAIRABLE RAFTS
A.
Repairs limited to the replacement of parts unable to pass inspections described in the
Testing and Fault Isolation and Check Chapters of this manual.
B.
Rafts requiring minor repairs. Minor repairs are defined as the following:
i.
Patching rips, tears, and abrasions not exceeding 6in. (15cm) in length and not
crossing seam lap of adjacent fabric sections.
ii.
Re-cementing loosened patches.
iii.
Sewing repairs to the valise.
C.
If repairs beyond the limits of the conditions described in previous statements, it is
recommended that the raft be returned to Revere Supply Company.
Clean all repaired disassembled parts prior to re-assembly according to procedures described in the
Cleaning Chapter of this manual.
