Background knowledge
The ICS80 Stereo speaker com-bines
two 2-way speakers in one housing
and as such, it is a true stereo speaker.
How is this possible?
The ICS80 Stereo uses the frequency-
dependant emission characteristic of
dynamic speakers.
The higher the emitted frequency, the
stronger a speaker bundles. An
additional plus point to this
characteristic is that the human ear
can positionalise treble frequencies
but not bass frequencies. As a result,
the positionalisation and therefore the
spatial representation of music is
significantly more influenced by the
treble frequencies or respectively the
tweeter.
The ICS80 Stereo has two completely
separated tweeters with axes that are
offset by 37°, which means that they
emit in different directions, thereby
creating a stereo image.
In the bass range, the right and left
channels are coupled electro-mag-
netically through a double voice coil to
a joint bass membrane. Both coils work
electrically separated from each other
but the generated magnetic field
creates the effect of a combined drive
unit.
In terms of the efficiency factor, the
two tweeters and the double voice coil
bass are perfectly matched to each
other and, as if by magic, create the
illusion of true stereo from just one
speaker. This impression can be
further strengthened by the reflection
of sound waves from nearby walls.
Which amplifiers are suitable?
Through its galvanic separation, the
ICS80 Stereo is well suited for all types
of amplifier because, from an electrical
point of view, each amplifier will find
two, separate and individual speakers
connected.
