APPENDIX D
TROUBLESHOOTING
Carrier Detect LED is Red
Meaning
: The carrier that triggered the reception of data did not contain valid data.
Possible Causes
:
1. Bad signal to noise ratio;
2. Noisy
RF
environment;
3. A co-located radio on the same channel;
4. The signal level is set too low.
If the Carrier Detect LED is often red even whilst no other radios are transmitting, then increase the RSSI Trigger
Level, for example to –95dB.
Online LED is Red
Meaning
: A bad packet has been received.
Possible Causes
:
1. The most commonly cause is co-located radios.
2. Less likely causes are:
•
Bad signal to noise ratio;
•
Noisy RF environment;
•
The signal level is set too low.
Power / Fault LED is Red
Meaning
: A general fault has occurred.
Possible Causes
:
1. The most common cause is RS-232 parity, framing or overrun errors. If there is a baud rate or parity
mismatch on either of the serial ports then the fault indicator will be triggered. It may also be caused by an
invalid RS-232 output state, which occurs with laptops that alter the state of their serial ports to conserve
power. On some computers, this fault can be caused by the default settings for the serial communications,
as set in the Control Panel, being incompatible with the radio.
To determine if this is the case, look in the radio’s internal menu system

(refer to page 15) and check the Rx Errors on both serial ports. The errors include Overflows,
Overruns and Framing. If there are errors, then RS-232 mismatch is the most likely cause for the LED state.
Refer to section Serial Port Configuration Menu on page 11 for information on radio serial settings.
2. A Calibration Fault or Alignment Fault.
To determine if this is the case, examine the radio’s internal menu system D

(refer to page 15). If the following message appears:
ERR: Can’t align Receiver Coarse
DAC
or
ERR: Can’t Align Transmitter Coarse DAC
then the radio has been damaged and must be
returned.
Contact a member of the RF Innovations Sales Team on +(61) 08 9209 0900 to organise.
3. A firmware CRC error. This is extremely rare and will only occur if the firmware in the flash memory has
been damaged. It may be confirmed by examining the radio’s internal menu system
