Shutting Down
At the end of your casting day, shut down your
J-2
r
and allow it to cool.
1. Adjust the temperature controller down to
0°C (32°F). This will turn off the power and
still allow you to monitor the temperature
of the crucible as the machine cools.
2. Open the vacuum valve first, and then turn
off the vacuum pump.
3. Squeeze the casting lever and engage the
locking mechanism on the lever assembly
to lock the sealing rod assembly in the up
position. This keeps the sealing rod from
sticking to the crucible during cooling.
4. Leave the inert gas (nitrogen or argon)
on at about 4 lpm and let the crucible cool
until it turns dark gray (about 300°C/600°F).
1) Squeeze the handle and 2) push the locking
mechanism into the notch.
5. Once the crucible cools to this temperature,
turn off the gas and the power.
6. Turn off the inert gas at the tank.
