Activity 11 - Unplanned Maintenance
Engine stalls
If the engine(s) stall, the following could be
possible causes:
• poor fuel supply
• blocked fuel filters
• defective fuel pumps
• leaking fuel system
• low compression
• ignition circuit fault – check the coils, ignition leads,
plugs, etc. The ignition circuit can be tested using an
in-line spark tester on all four ignition leads.
• solid state capsize capsule fault.
Spark testing
Ensure the earth cable is clipped onto the small plate
within the engine. See the image below.
CAUTION
The spark tester must be kept well away
from the fuel.
