Problem: Sporadic issues during Ethernet negotiation between PC and R&S
TSME6 with some USB-LAN adapters using a Realtek RTL8153 network chip
If PC and R&S TSME6 are both powered on and physically connected with a LAN
cable, and the LAN LED 2 of the device (see
) does not reach its yellow state
after a few seconds, and/or no connection is visible on PC side, and this event occurs
sporadically, this may be due to an issue with the USB-LAN adapter not always com-
pleting ethernet negotiation successfully.
In most cases, forcing a new ethernet negotiation is enough to solve the issue (e.g. by
unplugging and plugging again ethernet cable). A workaround for this issue is imple-
mented in TSME6’s firmware since version 05.06.10.00, it is recommended to use this
version or a newer one.
Problem: Sporadic issues with R&S TSME6 not responding to connect attempts
from PC after ethernet negotiation is completed when using a USB LAN adapter
based on a Microchip LAN7800 network chip
If PC and R&S TSME6 are both powered on and physically connected with a LAN
cable, and the LAN LED 2 of the device (see
) has reached its yellow state
after a few seconds, and no connection to R&S TSME6 is possible, and this event
occurs sporadically, this may be due to an issue with the sending path from USB-LAN
adapter to R&S TSME6.
In most cases, forcing a new Ethernet negotiation is enough to solve the issue (e.g. by
unplugging and plugging again Ethernet cable). A workaround for this issue is imple-
mented in TSME6’s firmware since version 05.08.10.00. This workaround also requires
an up-to-date software release (R&S ViCOM 21.0 or newer, R&S ROMES 21.1 or
newer).
Problem: Unable to connect to R&S TSME6 when using a PCIe Network card
using a network chip from Realtek
If PC is properly configured to communicate with R&S TSME6 and no connection is
possible, this may be due to an issue with default drivers available in Windows 10 for
the network card not setting the MTU value correctly. Updating the driver shall solve
the issue.
Problem: Sporadic connection issues when using firmware 05.08.10.00 or newer
version
If sometimes PC is not able to connect to R&S TSME6 when using Firmware
05.08.10.00, this may be due to using a software release too old and not compatible
with the workaround implemented starting from this firmware version (workaround is
available starting from R&S ViCOM 21.0 or R&S ROMES 21.1).
This issue will rarely happen on a system, worst case to trigger it, is to use a single
TSME6 connected to PC using an unmanaged network switch. If compatibility with an
older software stack is mandatory, try one of the following solutions:
●
Connect PC directly to R&S TSME6, this shall drastically reduce the probability to
trigger this issue.
●
Connect a second active R&S TSME/TSME6 to the network switch.
