Front Panel Description
The Kiwi-SJX front panels differ from the original JX-10 and MKS-70 in a number of ways and the Kiwi-SJX Upgrade
redefines many of the buttons of this synth. Buttons have been assigned new functions and others now operate differently.
Button overlays with the new button functions are supplied with the upgrade. These can be fitted onto the buttons and this
process is described in the install section later in the manual.
The new layouts can be seen on the front panel layouts on the previous pages.
Because of the number of parameters in the Kiwi-SJX the parameter editing system has also been altered. Each parameter
has a three button addressing system that looks like G1 B1 T1. These refer to the Group buttons 1-4, Bank buttons 1-3 &
Tone buttons 0-9. In the MKS-70 version the Bank and Group buttons share the same buttons. The Group buttons are
accessed by pressing the SHIFT button first.
Many of the other buttons have also changed use and function and are described here in more detail.
WRITE BUTTON
The WRITE button has different operation
depending on the mode the Kiwi-SJX is
currently in.
For writing a Patch to permanent memory
in normal play mode simply press WRITE
followed by the Group (1-8), Bank (1-8)
and Patch (1-8). The actual write is done
when the button ENTER is pressed and
the Group, Bank and Patch buttons are
optional. If the Patch you wish to save is
in the same Group or Bank or Patch you
can skip selecting these again. To access
the GROUP buttons in the MKS-70
version the SHIFT button must be
pressed first.
A Patch can be easily copied from one
location to another by selecting a different
Group and/or Bank and/or Tone before
pressing the ENTER button.
The Number pad numbers 0 & 9 are not
used for loading and saving patches.
This button is also used to put the MKS-
70 version of the Kiwi-SJX into update
mode. This is done by holding down this
button during power on.
Saving and moving Tones is done the
same way but the Kiwi-SJX needs to
be in Tone edit mode which is
achieved by holding down the TONE
EDIT button for 2 seconds. For more
detail see the section on editing
Tones.
If you are editing a sequence then the
editing can be finished by pressing
the Write if you wish to save the seq to
permanent memory. To save a
sequence press WRITE followed by
Number pad 1-8 followed by the
ENTER button. The Group and Bank
buttons are not used for Sequences.
The WRITE button is also used when
performing a SYSEX Dump. Once a
dump has been selected the dump
will not start until WRITE is pressed.
If the memory is protected then an
error message will display when a
write to memory is attempted.
To perform a FACTORY RESET which
will clear all memory hold done WRITE
and MASTER TUNE (JX-10) or WRITE
and CHORD (MKS-70) on the as you
power on the Kiwi-SJX.
Warning – this will clear all memory
in the synth and there will be no
confirmation.
