before using for the first time
Set the browning level to maximum (all browning level lights on). Operate the
appliance empty, to cure the new elements. This may smell a bit, but it’s nothing to
worry about. Ensure the room is well ventilated.
toasting bread
1 Sit the toaster upright on a firm, level, heat-resistant surface.
Do not put it on or near anything that could be damaged even by moderate heat.
3 Bread may burn. Do not use the appliance near or below curtains or other
combustible materials and watch it while it’s hot.
4 Put the plug into the power socket.
5 The left four browning level lights will light up.
6 Use the buttons at either end of the browning level lights to lighten

or darken

the toast. The browning level lights will come on/go off to indicate the level
chosen. The more lights showing, the darker the toast.
7 Put bread into the toasting slots (maximum thickness 8mm).
8 Press the bread carriage handle down fully.

It won’t lock down unless the toaster is connected to the electricity supply.

light will come on, and the elements will heat up.
10 When it’s done, the toast will pop up and the elements will turn off.

1 After toasting small items (bagels, crumpets, etc.) the bread carriage handle may be
raised further, to allow them to be removed more easily.

13 This feature takes the guesswork out of toasting frozen bread.
14 Leave the browning control at your favoured setting, insert the frozen bread, lower
the bread carriage handle, then press the
f
button. The
f
light will come on, and
the toasting time will be altered automatically to give the same degree of browning
you get with unfrozen bread.
caution:
don’t try to defrost bread – this may damage the toaster, it may even cause
injury
a) toasting frozen bread changes ice to steam, which escapes via the
toasting slots.
b) defrosting bread on a low setting changes ice to water, which may drip
over the electronics and the elements.

reheating toast
15 Use the lowest setting. Only reheat plain, “unbuttered” toast.
hints and tips
16 If toasting more than one slice, use slices of similar size, thickness and freshness.
17 Old (yesterday’s) bread contains less moisture, so makes crisper toast.
18 Old or thin bread cooks faster than fresh or thick bread. Use a lower setting.
19 Sweet bread products (tea cakes, fruit loaf, etc.) brown much more quickly than
ordinary bread, so should be toasted on a lighter setting.

0 Clean the crumbs out of your toaster frequently, to avoid a build up of crumbs. This
is unhygienic and could cause a fire hazard.
1 Unplug the toaster and let it cool down. Remove and empty the crumb tray. Wipe
with a damp cloth, dry, then replace it in the toaster.
Do not use the toaster unless the crumb tray is fitted and closed.

3 Unplug the appliance when not in use, before moving and before cleaning. Let it
cool down fully before cleaning and storing away.
4 Wipe outer surfaces with a damp cloth. If necessary, use a little washing-up liquid.
5 Do not let anything enter the slot, you might damage the elements.
6 Do not put the appliance in water or any other liquid.
7 Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents or solvents.
