OPERATION
MAINTENANCE
NOTE: FIGURES (ILLUSTRATIONS) START ON PAGE 8
AFTER FRENCH AND SPANISH LANGUAGE SECTIONS.
WARNING:
When servicing, use only identical replacement parts.
Use of any other parts may create a hazard or cause
product damage.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most
plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of
commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use
clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease, etc.
WARNING:
Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-
based products, penetrating oils, etc., come in contact
with plastic parts. Chemicals can damage, weaken or
destroy plastic which may result in serious personal
injury.
DEVICE STORAGE
Always remove battery pack before storing the device.
BATTERY PACK PREPARATION FOR
RECYCLING
WARNING:
Upon removal, cover the battery pack’s terminals with
heavy-duty adhesive tape. Do not attempt to destroy
or disassemble battery pack or remove any of its
components. Lithium-ion and nickel-cadmium batteries
must be recycled or disposed of properly. Also, never
touch both terminals with metal objects and/or body
parts as short circuit may result. Keep away from children.
Failure to comply with these warnings could result in fire
and/or serious injury.
Locating live wires:
NOTE: The accuracy of the live AC detection feature of
this unit is dependent upon the existing conditions of the
area being scanned. Refer to
Operating Tips earlier in this
section and the instructions below for conditions that may
affect accuracy.
Once calibration is complete, begin to slowly move the
unit against the wall. A continuously flashing lightning
bolt will appear beneath AC and an audio tone will sound.
This tone is different from the one that sounds when you
reach a stud. If AC appears alone on the display, a live
wire is detected somewhere in the wall. If the lightning
bolt also appears, the unit has fully detected live AC.
NOTE: Always verify the location by repeating the
detection process from the opposite direction as
explained in
Operating Tips.
Live wire detection works when your wire is 2 in. or less
from the back side of the wall surface.
If you are having trouble locating live wires, ground
the unit by placing your other hand against the wall
approximately 8 in. to the side of the unit. Slide your hand
along the wall as you slide the unit.
WARNING:
Shielded wires, wires in conduits, wires behind thick
walls, or walls constructed with metal materials cannot be
reliably detected.
Always turn the AC power off when
working near live wires.
