damaged.
Filling with oil (Illustration Y1 )
Safety instruction!
See table for explanation of symbols page 2
IMPORTANT
Avoid damage! Engine is delivered without oil. You must add oil before running
the engine.
Before starting the engine for the first time, use a funnel to fill motor oil (quantity and
quality see technical data) having unscrewed the dipstick in this opening first.
– Set the mower on level ground.
– Slowly fill oil through the filler neck. Do not overfill.
–
Check oil level
Remove the dipstick. Use a clean cloth to wipe off the dipstick, then insert it again
but do not screw tightly. Then pull the dipstick out again and read off the oil level.
The oil must be between the "L" and "H" marks. Replenish oil if necessary.
However, the oil must not be higher than the "H" mark on the dipstick. Overfilling
will lead to engine damage.
Insert the oil dipstick again and tighten.
– After initial filling, remove the "NO OIL" sign from the top of the engine.
Filling with fuel
Safety instruction!
See table for explanation of symbols page 2
– Only fill the tank with fresh and clean unleaded standard petrol. Never use
alkylate-based petrol.
Fuel with up to 10% ethanol or 15% MTBE content is acceptable.
Never use petrol with an ethanol content greater than 10% or an MTBE content
greater than 15% since this can lead to damage to the engine or fuel system.
– Fuel tap should be closed
A
!
– Unscrew the fuel cap.
– Use a funnel to fill the fuel up to the max. lower edge of the filling nozzle.
– Replace the fuel filler cap and screw tight.
10 STARTING THE ENGINE (ILLUSTRATION A + C + E )
Safety instruction!
See table for explanation of symbols page 2
CAUTION
Hold the starter cable handle firmly when starting. The handle may otherwise slip
out of your hand. Risk of injury!
Only start the engine when standing behind of the mower.
– Open the ventilation valve (1) in the fuel filler cap
A
.
– Open the fuel tap
A
.
– Push the engine actuation lever (2) to the position "MAX" (3)
C
.
– Slowly pull the starter cable (4) out until resistance can be clearly felt.
Now return the handle to its initial position and then rapidly pull it out
E
– the
engine begins to run, slowly rewind the cable.
– In the position "MAX" the engine is running with maximum power at maximum
speed, which is required for a clean cutting pattern (engine speed = blade speed).
– For the grass collecting bag to be emptied, the lever (1) can be pushed to the
position (5)
C
.
11 SWITCHING ON THE CUTTING DECK (ILLUSTRATION H3 )
Safety instruction!
See table for explanation of symbols page 2
Only switch on the cutting deck when standing behind the mower.
Always place the mower on a level area which is not covered with high grass (if the
grass is too high it will block the cutter bar start-up and make starting the mower more
difficult). When the engine is started, the machine must not be tilted on end, if
necessary it must be tilted by pressing the guide bar down so that the cutting tool is
pointing in the direction away from the user, but only as far as absolutely necessary. As
long as the mower has not been lowered to the ground again, both your hands must be
on the top part of the bar.
– Press and hold down the safety control bracket (1) against the upper section of the
handlebar.
– Push the lever (2)
quickly
forward as far as the stop, and then release. The lever
returns automatically to its starting position.
IMPORTANT
Switching on the cutting deck slowly will lead to excessive wear to the brake and
clutch fittings and overheating of the complete brake clutch system.
For trouble-free operation of the starting system, the cutting deck must be
started according to the sequence specified above.
12 SWITCHING OFF THE CUTTING DECK (ILLUSTRATION I3 )
– Quickly release the safety switch bar for the blade brake.
IMPORTANT
As soon as the safety control bracket is released, it springs back to its starting
position under spring pressure, the blade brake now comes into operation, and
the blade is brought to a standstill within 3 seconds.
13 SWITCHING OFF THE ENGINE
(ILLUSTRATION I3 + G3 + A )
– Quickly release the safety switch bar for the blade brake
I3
.
– Move the operating lever to the STOP position
G3
.
– Close the petrol tap
A
.
14 EMERGENCY STOPPING
Release the safety control lever and the drive switch bar.
– The mower will stop.
– The blade will stop.
NOTE
Before every mowing job, make sure that the safety control bar for the blade
brake and the motor drive control bar are working perfectly:
–
when the safety control bar is released, the cutter bar must come to a
standstill within three seconds.
–
when the motor drive control bar is released, the machine must come to a
standstill immediately.
If this is not the case, please consult your nearest authorised workshop.
15 MOVEMENT DRIVE
Operating the rear wheel drive (Illustration G )
The rear wheel drive is switched on and off by means of the drive control handle (1) on
the top guide tube (2) when the engine is running:
– Pull and hold the drive control bar = mower moves.
– Release the drive control bar = mower stops (0-position).
NOTE
The rear wheels click when the mower is pushed forwards.
Adjusting the speed (Illustration H )
IMPORTANT
The speed may only be adjusted when the engine is running in order to avoid
damage!
The driving speed is set using the rotary knob mounted on the left.
– The knob can be turned in both directions for speed adjustment, so that the
required driving speed can be set. The arrow on the knob indicates the driving
speed.
– Position “Hare” = fast (max. speed)
– Position “Tortoise” = slow (min. speed)
NOTE
Mowing at high speed leads to poor cutting pattern or collection result. Always
adapt the speed to the prevailing conditions. For longer grass sections, a slower
driving speed should be selected.
