Clean Battery and Terminals
1. Turn ignition key off and lift hood.
2. Remove rubber hold-down strap (A).
3. Disconnect BLACK (–) battery cable (B) first.
4. Disconnect RED (+) battery cable (C) and blue
harness wire (D) and remove battery from mower.
5. Wash battery with solution of four tablespoons of
baking soda to one gallon of water. Be careful not to get
the soda solution into the cells.
6. Rinse the battery with clean water. Let dry.
7. Clean terminals and battery cable ends with wire
brush until bright.
8. Apply petroleum jelly or silicone spray to terminal to
prevent corrosion.
9. Reinstall battery. (See Removing and Installing the
Battery in this section and Connect the Battery in the
Assembly section.)

CAUTION: Battery gas can explode, to avoid
injury:
- Keep sparks and flames away from batteries.
Use a flashlight to check battery electrolyte
level.
- Never check battery charge by placing a
metal object across the posts. Use a voltmeter
or hydrometer.
- Always remove grounded (-) battery clamp
first and replace it last.
