AUGER ASSEMBLIES
INSTALLING REPLACEMENT AUGERS:
STEP 1 - REMOVE OLD AUGER.
STEP 2 - CUT FLANGES AND ANGLE BLADE OFF OF THE TOP SURFACE OF BOTTOM FLIGHT. (THESE PARTS ARE TACK WELDED HERE FOR
SHIPPING PURPOSES.) REMOVE THE AUGER COVER PLATE AND SET ASIDE FOR NOW.
STEP 3 - TIGHTLY BOLT FLANGES TO THE TOP OF THE GEARBOX. REFER TO FIGURE B.
NOTE: NOT ALL GEARBOXES WILL LOOK LIKE THIS NOR ARE THEY ALL THE SAME HEIGHT INSIDE THE TUBE, BUT THEY ALL HAVE A
FLAT AREA THAT THE FLANGES WILL BOLT TO.
STEP 4 - PLACE THE AUGER OVER THE GEARBOX AND AROUND THE FLANGES. SHIMS NEED TO BE PLACED UNDER THE AUGER TUBE
(IN AT LEAST 3 PLACES) SUCH THAT THE INSIDE LEADING EDGE OF THE BOTTOM AUGER FLIGHT IS LOCATED AT .19 TO .31 INCHES
FROM THE FLOOR OF THE MIXER. REFER TO FIGURES A AND B.
STEP 5 - PLACE SHIMS IN BETWEEN THE OD OF THE FLANGES AND THE ID OF THE TUBE IN AT LEAST 3 LOCATIONS. (REFER TO FIGURE B.)
THIS WILL CENTER THE AUGER TUBE ON THE FLANGES. TACK WELD THE FLANGES TO THE TUBE.
STEP 6 - REMOVE THE SHIMS FROM UNDER THE AUGER TUBE AND ROTATE THE AUGER 360 DEGREES TO VERIFY THAT THE INSIDE LEADING
EDGE OF THE AUGER IS .19 TO .31 INCHES ABOVE THE FLOOR THROUGH THE FULL ROTATION OF THE AUGER. IF THIS CLEARANCE
IS NOT MAINTAINED, READJUST THE SHIMS AND REMOVE AND REPLACE THE TACK WELDS ON THE FLANGES AS NECESSARY.
STEP 7 -ONCE AGAIN, REMOVE THE SHIMS FROM UNDER THE AUGER TUBE AND ROTATE THE AUGER 360 DEGREES CHECKING TO ENSURE THAT
THE .19 TO .31 INCH CLEARANCE WITH THE FLOOR IS MAINTAINED. PLACE A SOLID FILLET WELD AT THE CONNECTION OF THE
FLANGES TO THE ID OF THE AUGER TUBE. IF THERE IS TOO MUCH OR TOO LITTLE CLEARANCE AT THE OUTSIDE LEADING EDGE OF
THE BOTTOM AUGER FLIGHT, THE FLIGHT MAY NEED TO BE PHYSICALLY MANIPULATED. IF THIS IS REQUIRED, CONTACT THE SIOUX
AUTOMATION CENTER SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR GUIDANCE.
STEP 8 -LOCATE THE ANGLE BLADE (SHOWN IN FIGURE C) ON THE TOP SURFACE OF THE BOTTOM AUGER FLIGHT. TAKE ALL MEASUREMENTS
FROM THE VERTICAL SIDEWALL OF THE MIXER. TACK WELD IN POSITION.
NOTE: THE ANGLE BLADE MUST BE PERPENDICULAR TO THE BOTTOM AUGER FLIGHT.
STEP 9 -ROTATE THE AUGER 360 DEGREES TO ENSURE THE ANGLE BLADE DOES NOT CONTACT ANY PART OF THE MIXER WALLS. IF THE ANGLE
BLADE CONTACTS ANYTHING, REMOVE THE TACK WELDS AND ADJUST THE BLADE POSITION AS NECESSARY. ONCE THE AUGER CAN
BE ROTATED WITHOUT THE ANGLE BLADE MAKING CONTACT WITH ANYTHING, WELD THE BLADE FULLY IN PLACE.
