12.5.
Flushing the system (Use flushing kit part number K1134100-500)
12.5.1. System flushing is required only when the system has experienced a catastrophic failure of the
compressor or receiver dryer. In addition, examination of the system refrigerant lubricant should be
performed during component replacement. If this examination shows lubricant particulate
contamination or unusual oil discoloration, a complete system flush is recommended.
WARNING:
KEEP REFRIGERANTS AND OIL AWAY FROM OPEN FLAMES. REFRIGERANTS CAN
PRODUCE POISONOUT GASSES IN THE PRESENCE OF A FLAME. WORK IN A WELL VENTILLATED
AREA AND AVIOD BREATHING REFRIGERANT/LUBRICANT VAPOR MIST IF ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE
OCCURS.
12.5.2. Enviro recommends flushing the system using only R-134A refrigerant.
WARNING:
REFRIGERANT RECOVERY/RECYCLE SERVICE EQUIPMENT MUST BE APPROVED FOR
USE WITH R-134A REFRIGERANT. RECYCLING MACHINES MUST BE APPROVED BY UNDERWRITERS
LABORATORIES.
WARNING:
DO NOT INTRODUCE COMPRESSES AIR OR OXYGEN INTO AN AIRCONDITIONING SYSTEM
OR REFRIGERANT CONTAINER. R-134A IN THE PRESENCE OF AIR OR OXYGEN ABOVE
ATMOSPHERIC PRESURE MAY FORM A COMBUSTABLE MIXTURE.
CAUTION:
ENVIRO SYSTEMS DISCOURAGES THE USE OF ANY FLUSHING AGENTS EXCEPT QWIK
FLUSH-SF, DUE TO THE DIFFICULTY OF ASSURING THAT ALL THE SOLVENT HAS BEEN REMOVED.
FLUSH AGENTS REMAINING IN THE SYSTEM RESULY IN POOR COMPRESSOR LUBRICATION AND
PREMATURE COMPONENT FAILURE. IT HAS BEEN FOUND THAT RESIDUAL AMOUNTS OF FLUSH
AGENTS MAY ACT AS CORROSIVES AND AFFECT THE INTEGRITY OF SEALS, O-RINGS, AND OTHER
COMPONENTS.
12.5.3. Gain access to the Compressor Drive Module.
12.5.4. Verify power is removed or applicable circuit breakers have been pulled and collared.
12.5.5. Connect certified reclaim, charging, and recycle cart manifolds to system service ports and recover
remaining refrigerant. Refer to the cart’s manufacturer’s instructions for use.
12.5.6. Remove the expansion valves and install the expansion valve adapters. It is important that the
expansion valves are not flushed through, as they will catch any debris.
12.5.7. Remove the receiver dryer and install the receiver dryer adapter. It is important that the receiver
dryer is not flushed through, as the internal desiccant may exit the receiver dryer and clog other areas
of the system.
12.5.8. Remove the plumbing lines from the compressor and install the compressor adapter. It is important
that the compressor not be flushed through, and debris can become lodged inside.
12.5.9. Apply power to the recovery unit and run for a minimum of 15 minutes or as per the manufacturer’s
specifications, whichever is longer.
12.5.10. Check for leaks during the flushing process. If leaks are detected, stop machine and repair leaks
before continuing.
12.5.11. Confirm that the recovery unit shuts down at the end of the selected time.
12.5.12. Turn power off at the recovery unit and remove from aircraft.
