Check the Rotational Positioning
of the Shuttle Race Guide Shaft
1
Remove the needle plate (p 55,
17
)
and feed dog (p 61,
18
)
2
Remove the bobbin case and bobbin, but
leave the retaining ring (p 36,
B
) and gib hook
(p 36,
D
) installed
3
Rotate the balance wheel until the needle
enters the shuttle (
73
)
If positioned properly, the needle is centered
in the “triangular” opening of the retaining ring
cap spring from front to back (
A
)
4
Minor adjustments can be made by loosening
the two screws (
B
) to slide the cap spring
forward or back
If more movement is required, you’ll need
to adjust the rotational positioning of the
shuttle race guide shaft (p 54)

Adjust the Rotational Positioning of the Shuttle Race Guide Shaft
1
Determine that there is no more than 1/64 inch of play
in the left-right movement of the lower shaft (
C
) If
there is more than 1/64 inch of play, reset the left-right
positioning of the shuttle gib hook (p 51)
2
Rotate the balance wheel until the needle enters the
shuttle (
73
)
3
With left hand, grab the shuttle race guide shaft (
D
);
hold to the right and maintain light pressure
4
With right hand, loosen the clamp screw (
E
) slightly
Adjust the shuttle race guide shaft (
D
) so that the
needle is positioned correctly within the retaining ring
cap spring (
A
)
5
Once you've confirmed correct positioning, tighten
the compressible timing clamp screw (
E
) Be careful
while doing this to keep clamp (
F
) tight up against the
casting leg (
G
)
Confirm that there is very little play in the left-right
movement of the lower shaft (
C
)
You have now completed timing your Ultrafeed
