If the Backfeed protection is not automatic, warning labels must be placed in all the primary power switches or circuit-breakers,
installed in far areas from the equipment, to warn the electric maintenance staff of the presence of a
UPS
in the circuit.
The label will have the following text or an equivalent one:
Isolate the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) before working in the circuit.
.
• Connect the power supply cables to the input terminals
(C1), respecting the phase (L) or phases (R-S-T) sequence and
neutral (N)
, stated in the equipment labelling and in this manual.
It is a must to have neutral in equipments with three phase input.
7.4.- Connection of input transformers or autotransformers, external to the UPS in a separate case.
• When an input transformer or autotransformer is needed by the
UPS
, it will be placed as close as possible, in such way that
the both parts after being interconnected will be considered as a single unit.
•
The earth connection must be necessarily made to the terminal identified with the label
( )
, ensuring that this is done
before connecting the input power supply cables.
• Connect the power supply cables to the input terminals of the transformer or autotransformer,
respecting the phase (L) or
phases (R-S-T) sequence and neutral (N)
, stated in the equipment labelling.
• Interconnect through cables the output terminals of the transformer or autotransformer with the
UPS, respecting the
phase (L) or phases (R-S-T) sequence and neutral (N)
, stated in the equipment labelling.
7.5.- Connection of the output, terminals (C4).
•
The earth connection must necessarily be made to the terminal identified with the label
( )
, ensuring that this is done
before connecting the input power supply cables of the
UPS
.
• If the
UPS
has an output isolation transformer, there will be 5 terminals
(C4)
, where 4 correspond to the ends of the 2
transformer secondary windings and the fifth to the earth terminal. Thanks to these terminals, the connection of the windings
can done in series or parallel in order to adapt output voltage of the equipment to the required one, so one or two cables can
be observed as bridges at the output terminals
(C4)
:
Connection in series (for output voltage 208/220/230/240V), bridge between terminals
N1
and
L2
.
Connection in parallel (for output voltage 100/110/115/120/127V), bridges between terminals
L1
and
L2
, and
N1
and
N2
.
Do not remove the bridge/s and do not modify the received bridges connection of the equipment, since the specifica-
tions stated in the nameplate would not correspond with those given by the unit and it would be a risk for the loads and
UPS
.
Keep in mind that the equipments with output isolation transformer are supplying a floating output voltage, so in case you
need to reference it, a bridge between the output terminal
N2
and earth terminal
( )
must be done.
All the terminals labelled as earth
( )
are connected to each other, to the ground of the equipment and to the shield screen
of the isolation transformer if the
UPS
has it.
