Torque values for bolts
In the absence of specific torque values, the following chart can be used as a guide to the
maximum safe torque for a particular size and grade of fastener. There is no torque difference for
fine or coarse threads. Torque values are based on clean, dry threads. Reduce value by 10% if
threads are oiled before assembly.

) in upper section of the gear. The oil level can be checked by
opening check plug
A
at the back of the intersecting gear. If the oil level is too low, refill the oil
(Gear oil SAE 80W/90, API GL-4)
until it appears in the check opening
A
. Plug
C
is used to drain
the oil from the gear. Oil volume in main gear: approx. 0.29 gal lqd (1.1 L).

Angular gearboxes for carousels
The angular gearboxes
1
,
2
and
3
(
Fig. 37
) on the tedder's carousels are filled with EPX 00
semi-liquid grease for sealed gearboxes, which is resistant to washing out with water. By opening
check plug
A
(
Fig. 37
), the oil level should be checked and refill as needed. A fully filled gearbox
contains 0.55 lb (0.25 kg) of grease.
