Insert a new insulin cartridge
Check your insulin
A.
Pull
off the
pen cap
B.
Unscrew
the
cartridge
holder
from the
pen body
If there is an empty insulin
cartridge, remove it

Fully rewind
the
plunger
to
the starting position
D.
Check
that the
insulin
cartridge
is
new
,
has
not expired
and has
not
been damaged
, and that
you have the
correct insulin
Check the label on your cartridge to make sure you
have the correct insulin. Using the wrong insulin may
result in unwanted changes in blood sugar that could
be harmful to your health

Put
your new insulin cartridge into the
cartridge holder
Do not insert a partially used cartridge
F.
Screw
the cartridge holder firmly back on to the
pen body
Check
that the
marks
on the cartridge holder and the pen
body
line up
Check that you have read and understood the
instructions supplied with your pen needles and
make sure your needle is new and sterile

Peel off
the
protective seal
from your new pen needle

Line up
your pen needle with the end of the
cartridge holder
Keep
your pen needle
straight
and
screw or push
it onto
the cartridge holder until
firmly fixed

is a half-unit, re-usable insulin pen used to inject insulin. Always follow the directions
given by your Diabetes Team and read the full JuniorSTAR

User Guide before you use your
JuniorSTAR
®
pen for the first time. If you have any questions about your JuniorSTAR
®
or about
Type 1 Diabetes, ask your Diabetes Team or call Sanofi Diabetes careline on 08000 352525.
– Instructions for use must be read prior to using your JuniorSTAR
®
pen
– Do not share your JuniorSTAR
®
pen – it is only for you
– Always have a back-up method for injecting your insulin available (e.g. an insulin syringe)
– JuniorSTAR
®
is available in different colours. If you use different types of insulin, you should use
a different colour pen for each insulin
– JuniorSTAR
®
should only be used with Sanofi 3 ml insulin cartridges (supplied separately)
– Make sure that the name on the insulin cartridge is visible in the cartridge holder window
– You can set doses from 1 to 30 units in steps of 0.5 units
– Discuss your insulin treatment plan with your Diabetes Team
– Insulin use: once you take the insulin cartridge out of cool storage (e.g. a refrigerator), you can
use it for up to 28 days or until the expiry date of the insulin (whichever comes first). The insulin
should not be kept in the refrigerator once it has been attached to your JuniorSTAR
®
pen
– Your JuniorSTAR
®
pen can be used for up to 2 years after first use
IMPORTANT
Check the name on the insulin cartridge each time before
you inject.
In case the name of the insulin cartridge is not visible in
the cartridge holder window, turn the cartridge with your
fingers until the name is visible

Check
the
appearance
of your insulin
If you are using clear insulin, do not use the cartridge if
the insulin is cloudy or coloured
If you are using a suspension insulin, turn the pen up
and down at least 10 times to re-suspend the insulin.
Turn the pen gently to avoid foaming in the cartridge
