activation with GPS
Your beacon is equipped with an internal gPS receiver. once you active the beacon, the
gPS engine will start up and search to fi nd your LAT/LoN and incorporate it into your 406
MHz signal. As soon as the gPS receiver acquires good positioning data the red LeD will
stop blinking and the green LeD will begin fl ashing every two seconds.
The same gPS data will be sent with each 406 MHz signal for the next twenty minutes.
At that time the internal gPS will start up again, search to fi nd your LAT/LoN and
incorporate it into your next 406 MHz signal. If for any reason the internal gPS cannot
update your LAT/LoN, your last position will be used for the next four hours. At that time
the green LeD will stop blinking and the red LeD will fl ash every 2 seconds until new
gPS data is obtained.
It is important that you do not cover the gPS receiver with your hand, fi ngers, etc.
to ensure optimum performance of the gPS receiver, the beacon needs to have an
unobstructed view of the sky.

Deactivation
To deactivate your PLB, depress the oN/oFF button for 5 seconds. once deactivated,
all blinking LeDs will stop, signifying that the beacon is no longer sending your
distress message.
PLB Self Test
Astronics DMe Corporation recommends performing the Self Test at least 7 business
days prior to the start of your excursion, allowing enough time for service should your
PLB require it (see Figure 6).
The Self Test checks the following components: Data Integrity and Memory test;
Phase Lock detect test; RF Power/Battery test; gPS header test; 121.5 MHz
2-second burst test.
A Self Test is initiated by holding the Test button for at least 1 second and less than 3
seconds (antenna does not need to be deployed). If the Self Test passes, the white strobe
will fl ash. If the Self Test fails, the red LeD will fl ash for 1 second.
If a red LeD fl ashes, repeat the Self Test. If the failure persists, contact Astronics DMe
Corporation for servicing of your PLB.
WaRnInG: The Self Test emits a 121.5 MHz homing signal for 2 seconds. The Self Test
can only be performed within the fi rst 5 minutes of any hour.
