Run a virus scan application such as Disinfectant (free and
effective).
Symptom of possible hardware problem

Check for the problem in “Scan problems” in this chapter

Other (Sad Mac error codes, strange chords at startup, etc.)
Run MacCheck, Disk First Aid, Apple HD SC Setup or
other diagnostic software. (Some of these come bundled
with the Macintosh; others may come bundled with
scanners or other SCSI devices.)
Final Check for Unresolved Problem

Check third party known problems from third party vendor’s
websites: Possible vendors whose websites you might visit are
TextBridge, Apple, scanner vendors, and others for FAQ’s,
(Frequently Asked Questions) release notes and TIB’s
(Technical Information Bulletins).
TIBS and FAQ's often shed some light on why a problem is
occurring and may give work-arounds for them. For example,
you may need to install a new extension or library.
