Stopping the engine, retracting the propeller

The engine is stopped by the following procedure:
•
Throttle back to 20% power for 1 minute to allow the engine to cool down.
•
Reduce speed to 90 km/h (49 kt, 56 mph) and set flaps at “+ 2”
•
Ignition “OFF”
•
Maintain speed until prop has stopped
•
Pull prop arresting device handle
•
Increase speed to about 95 to 100 km/h (51-54 kt, 59-62 mph) to crank
the engine until prop is vertical
•
Retract prop until green light comes on (spindle drive will automatically
be cut off)
CAUTION:
Through the mirror observe the propeller retracting to check if the
propeller rotate further.
The propeller retracts within about 11 seconds, but the entire process from
stopping the engine to the moment the propeller has fully retracted takes about
90 seconds and consumes a height of about 100 m (328 ft).
