test and maintain the safety light grid SLG422/425I-P.
When using the safety light grid please be sure to heed the following recommendations:
- Make sure that the people operating the machine have been informed of the installation of SLG422/425I-P.
- Read the entire installation manual before initiating SLG 422/ 425I-P .
- Keep the manual in a suitable location so that it is available at all times.
1.1 EU Regulations
(1) SLG 422/ 425I-P is an opto-electronic self testing protective device in accordance with the regulations of the
European Union (EU), Machinery directive, Annex 4, B Safety Components, Item 1.
(2) It complies with the following regulations and standards:
- EN 61496-1:2004
- CLC/TS 61496-2:2006
- EN 62061:2005, SIL 3

2.1 General conventions for safe use
The following conventions are preventive warning instructions in order to ensure safe and proper handling of
SLG 422/ 425I-P.
They form an integral part of the safety instructions and thus have to be followed at all times.
! Attention
A potentially hazardous situation which might result in death or serious injury.
The safety light grid SLG 422/ 425I-P can be used to safeguard danger spots on machines or applications
which in a risk analysis have category 4 according to EN 954-1.
- Never use SLG 422/ 425I-P on machines that cannot be stopped by electrical emergency shut down.
- The safety distance between SLG 422/ 425I-P and hazardous machine movements must be maintained at all times.
(s. chapter 4.1 Installation requirements)
- Additional mechanical safety precautions are to be installed in a way that dangerous machine parts can not
be reached without passing through the detection zone. (s. chapter 4.1 Installation requirements)
- Install SLG 422/ 425I-P in a way that the operator's body is always within the detection zone when operating the
machine.
Failure to do so may result in serious injury.
- Do not short the output lines to the +24V/DC line. Doing so will cause the outputs to be ON, i.e. they cannot
stop a dangerous situation in the application/on the machine.
- Safety inspections must be carried out at regular intervals (s. chapter 10.1, 10.2).
- Do not expose SLG 422/ 425I-P to flammable or explosive gases.
- Do not disassemble, repair or modify SLG 422/ 425I-P.
