4. Using the generator set
4.1. Positioning the generating set for operation
The generating sets are intended to operate while stationary. They may not be installed on a vehicle or other
mobile equipment unless a study has been carried out analysing the various usage specifications.
IMPORTANT
Choose a site that is clean, well ventilated and sheltered from bad weather.
Place the generating set on a flat, horizontal surface which is firm enough to prevent the generating set sinking down (under no
circumstances should the set tilt in any direction by more than 10°).
Store the additional supplies of oil and fuel whilst respecting the basic safety rules: do not place cans near to the generating set.
Before any operation, lock the wheel unlocking lever (A - 22) in order to stabilise the generating set.
4.2. Checking the engine oil level and topping up
Before starting the generating set, always check the oil level. If the generating set was used beforehand, leave
the generating set to cool for at least 30 minutes before checking the oil level.
Top up the tank with the recommended oil
(see § Specifications)
and using a funnel.
IMPORTANT
Using a screwdriver, remove the screw (A - 24) and the inspection flap (A - 23).
Remove the oil filler cap (B - 1) and visually check the oil level (B - 3): the oil should reach the filler neck.
If the oil level is insufficient, top it up to the required level.
Refit the oil filler cap.
Check that there are no oil leaks, and wipe away any traces of oil with a clean cloth.
Close the inspection flap by tightening the mounting screw correctly.
4.3. Checking the fuel level and topping up
RISK OF EXPLOSION
The fuel is highly flammable and its vapours are combustible.
Filling should be carried out with the engine switched off and cold. Smoking, using a
naked flame or producing sparks are forbidden while the fuel tank is being filled. Clean any
traces of fuel with a clean cloth and wait until the vapours have dispersed before starting
the generating set.
DANGER
Storage and handling of petroleum products must be carried out in accordance with the law. Use only clean fuel without any water. Do
not overfill the tank (there should not be any fuel above the level of the screen filter).
Visually check the fuel level on the fuel level indicator (A - 4): it must be close to the letter "F" (Full).
If the level is close to the letter "E" (Empty), have a funnel available and unscrew the fuel tank cap (A - 5).
Fill the fuel tank up to the letter "F" or up to the maximum level of the screen filter (A - 7) taking care not to spill any fuel.
Carefully tighten the fuel tank cap.
Check that there are no leaks, and wipe away any traces of fuel with a clean cloth.
4.4. Checking the condition of the air filter
Never use petrol or flammable solvents for cleaning the air filter element (risk of fire or explosion when starting
the generating set). Never start the generating set without an air filter or exhaust.
IMPORTANT
Remove the nuts (A - 25) and the rear enclosure (A - 26) to access the air filter (A - 8).
Unlock the air filter cover fasteners (D - 1) then remove the air filter cover (D - 2) and the filter element (D - 3).
Remove the filter element from its support (D - 4) and visually check its condition.
Clean or replace the filter element if necessary
(see § Clean the air filter)
.
Refit the filter element on its support.
Refit the filter element and the air filter cover then lock the fasteners.
Refit the rear enclosure by retightening the nuts correctly.
