Antenna Specific Operation

Target a Ku-Band Satellite From A C-Band Satellite
In this example the ship is at LAT 28.0N, LON 140.0W and Heading is 000.0 degrees true.
We are now tracking the C-Band satellite at 160W. The current
Azimuth of the C-Band reflector is 217.8 degrees and the
Elevation is at 50.6 degrees.
C-Band Reflector
In this example, we wish to switch to a Ku-Band satellite at
170W. The calculated target position of the Ku-Band reflector
for this satellite will be true Azimuth position of 230.9 degrees
and Elevation of 43.6 degrees.
Ku-Band reflector
Note that the antenna pedestal has not changed its stance; the
C-Band reflector is still pointed at 217.8 azimuth. Also note that
for azimuth purposes the Ku-Band reflector is 180 degrees from
the C-Band reflector, so it is currently at an azimuth of 37.8
degrees.
First, if we do not already know the system settings that we will
use for the Ku-Band satellite at 170W, we should contact our
airtime provider. We need to know:
•
What frequency band is this Ku-Band satellite and is it
Cross-Pol or Co-Pol, to select the appropriate Band
Selection setting.
•
What TX polarity we will be using, so we can set TX
POLARITY to the appropriate setting.
•
Which signal we will use for tracking so that we can
enter the correct band selection and the values for the
MHz, KHz, FEC, SKEW and NID settings.
NOTE: It’s a good idea to record this information for all of the
satellites that you may potentially use in the regions where your
ship will be travelling.
1.
Access the ANTENNA menu to assure REFLECT B is
selected.
2.
Access the STATUS Menu – TRACKING window and
toggle the Band selection to the appropriate Cross-Pol
Band or Co-Pol Band.
3.
Access the SATELLITE Menu – Tracking Receiver
settings and enter the MHz, KHz and SKEW values, for
the desired satellite, in their appropriate entry windows.
Note that the antenna pedestal has not changed its stance; the
C-Band reflector is still pointed at the C-Band satellite at 160W.
