FUEL FILTER MAINTENANCE
A major cause of poor starting or power loss is the
result of a clogged filter element or a fuel system
air leak. Check that the filter lid and drain plug are
properly tightened. Check for water in the bottom
of the filter body daily, by opening the tap and
drain any water into a container.
TO REPLACE THE FILTER
Shut down the engine.
Remove the lid.
Remove the old rubber lid seal and dispose of
the old seal properly.
Apply a coating of clean fuel or motor oil to the
rubber lid seal supplied with the new element.
Place the new seal in position on the lid.
Remove the filter element by holding the
moulded handle and slowly pulling upward with a
twisting motion.
Insert the new filter element with a slow
downward twisting motion.
Fill the filter with clean fuel, then replace the
lid.
Tighten the lid T-handle by hand only. Do not
overtighten. Start the engine and check for any
leaks.
Correct any leaks with the engine shut down.
It is recommended that spare filter elements be
carried aboard as contaminated fuel can easily plug
a filter.
REFER TO THE ENGINE OPERATOR'S MANUAL
FOR MORE DETAILED INFORMATION.
WARNING
Avoid carrying petrol on board unless it is
completely necessary; reduce the risk by keeping
petrol containers, outboard motors and petrol
generators secured in the open air or in a drained
locker outside the cabin space and never use an
open container to hold or transfer petrol.
WARNING
LEAKING FUEL IS A FIRE AND EXPLOSION
HAZARD, INSPECT SYSTEM REGULARLY.
EXAMINE FUEL TANKS FOR LEAKS OR
CORROSION AT LEAST ANNUALLY
