16 Pinpointing
16.1 Introduction
After a leakage has been identified and pre-located by a correlation, the Correlator can
be used to pinpoint the leak position.
In the area of the pre-located leak position, individual measurements are performed at a
number of measuring points along the probable pipe run. The noise levels recorded are
displayed on the Correlator. The closer a measuring point is to the leak, the louder the
recorded sound.
To determine the leak position accurately, a number of pinpointing runs are carried out
in succession. With each new run, a smaller distance between the measuring points is
chosen. This way, you will gradually approach the exact leak location.
The Correlux C-3 system allows two variants of how to conduct a pinpoint location:
2 options
Pinpoint location using the
ground microphone
Pinpoint location using
Multi sensors
The optional ground microphone is
connected to the Correlator.
Individual measurements are performed in
sequence along the pipe at a number of
measuring points.
The measured values are displayed "live"
on the screen of the Correlator.
You can listen to the recorded sound "live"
via headphones.
Up to 8 Multi sensors are placed at the
desired measurement points on the
ground. Actually, they are used as ground
microphones.
A measurement is performed by the
sensors.
The measured values are displayed "live"
on the screen of the Correlator.

Pinpointing using the ground microphone
The following preparation work is necessary if you want to perform a pinpoint location
using the optional ground microphone:
•
Connect the ground microphone PAM W2 to the Correlator using the supplied
VK 100 connection cable. Observe the markings on the plug and socket. You must
feel the plug engage.
The Correlator's microphone socket has this icon:
•
If you want to listen to the leak noise, connect the supplied headphones to the
Correlator. Use the
12 V DC /
socket.
•
Have any object/s ready which can be used during the pinpoint location to mark the
position where the loudest sound will be measured.
