The usual SMTP server port without protected connection is 25.
The usual SMTP server port with protected connection is 587 or 465.
17.3.
SMTP authentication: user name and password
Connections can be made to an SMTP server with or without authentication. Z-GPRS2 permits
server connections via authentication with a user name and password.
The user name typically coincides with the first part of the email address (for example:
info), or the
entire email address (for example:
info@seneca.it).

SMTP server protected connection (Z-GPRS2 only)
Protected SMTP server connection is only available on Z-GPRS2 and only via the GPRS
communication port.
Protected connection cannot be used to send email via the Ethernet port but ONLY THROUGH
GPRS CONNECTION .
CAUTION!
•
Z-logger only supports SMTP servers that DO NOT have SSL protected connection (for
example, server “smtp.gmail.com” cannot be used).
•
Z-GPRS2 supports SMTP servers that use SSL protected connection (for example,
“smtp.gmail.com” can be used) but only via GPRS connection (sending email via Ethernet
can be made only without protected connection).
•
Some mobile network providers require their SMTP servers are used to send emails.
Contact your mobile service operator for further information.
•
Even if all email send operations were successful, the email arrival at the mailboxes of
the recipients is not ensured since the SMTP server is the one that delivers it. For
example, using a competitor's SMTP server may not return any error while the email is
not actually sent.
